Las actividades económicas se categorizaron de acuerdo con la Clasificación Industrial Internacional Uniforme de todas las Actividades Económicas (CIIU/ISIC), Revisión 4. La CIIU/ISIC divide las actividades económicas en Secciones, que a su vez se desglosan en Divisiones, Grupos y Clases.
ENCORE utiliza una lista de 271 actividades económicas que corresponden a los Grupos de la CIIU, con la excepción de ciertos Grupos que se han desagregado aún más para alinearse con las Clases de la CIIU/ISIC.
